Test Procedures & Precautions
- Use only components from the kit. Do not use transport media.
- Open cassette only when ready; once opened, use within 1 hour.
- Process samples within 1 hour of collection.
- Perform test at room temperature (15–30 °C / 59–86 °F).
- Check expiration date before use.
Steps
- Collect Sample
- Insert swab ≤ ¾ inch (1.5 cm) into one nostril (≤ ½ inch for children).
- Rotate 5 times against nasal wall, repeat in other nostril.
- Process Sample
- Insert swab into tube, rotate ≥10 times, press against sides.
- Remove swab while squeezing tube, attach dropper tip.
- Add Sample
- Dispense 3 drops into sample well.
- Read Result
- Wait 10 minutes, read between 10–30 minutes.
Interpretation of Results
- Invalid: Control line (C) absent → repeat with new test.
- Negative: C line visible, no other lines. Negative results are presumptive; confirm with PCR if symptoms or high exposure risk.
- Positive: C line visible + line at COV, Flu A, or Flu B.
- Any visible line (even faint) = positive.
- Multiple positives are possible and may indicate co-infection. Confirm with molecular test if needed.
- Positive results suggest infection and possible contagiousness. Notify healthcare provider and follow isolation guidelines.
The CorDx Tyfast Flu A/B & COVID-19 Multiplex Rapid Test is a lateral flow assay for rapid, in vitro detection and differentiation of influenza A, influenza B, and SARS-CoV-2 antigens from anterior nasal swabs. It is intended for use in individuals with respiratory symptoms consistent with COVID-19 within the first 5 days of onset, when tested at least twice over 3 days (≥48 hours apart). Authorized under e Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) for moderate, high, or waived complexity labs, the test may be used at the Point of Care (POC) in patient care settings. Results differentiate SARS-CoV-2 from influenza A/B, but do not distinguish between SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 or detect influenza C.
The CorDx Tyfast Flu A/B & COVID-19 Multiplex Rapid Test is only for in vitro diagnostic use under the Food and Drug Administration’s Emergency Use Authorization. This product has not been FDA cleared or approved.
